| Hope Through The Years |
|
Silay Hope Baptist Church started to exist as a house church when a handful of believers gathered together in the house of Mrs Teodora Libo-on in Tres Fuentes, Silay City. It was formally established as Silay Baptist Church in June 1951 when after the evangelistic campaign of Reverend William Hopper , about 35 members built a wood-and-nipa structure along Rizal Street going north. Thirteen years later, through the efforts of Reverend Eliezer Catanus and Mr Teodorico Jimiera, a new concrete church was constructed in Figueroa Street, Silay City when Mrs Natividad Jayme donated the lot where Silay Hope Baptist Church is presently located. In 1989, the church opened the Hope Kindergarten School through the initiative of Pastor Jonathan Montañez. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Charity Baptist Church, the daughter church of Hope at AIDSISA Sugar Central. Another outreach was opened in 1999 in Guihulngan, Negros Occidental which was initiated by Pastor Gil Padilla. There was several crucial and bleak times in the past when the church was battered and bruised by conflicts. Through faith and God's grace, Hope survived the crises and emerged stronger and better. Hope pulsates with life - drawing her breath for the Ultimate Source of life. Her dynamism is manifested in the involvement and commitment of the members in her services, ministries and fellowships. SHBC is not a perfect church but maintains that as long as she stays focused on and connected with God, she will not go wrong.
Among the original members, the surviving families of the Allosa, Armigo, Cabiles, Celles and Jimieras are very much visible and connected in church even today. Presently, the church has 150 family and individual members. Praise God for Hope that continues to exist even beyond the fourth generation. At Hope, we are FAMILY. |
